Acronym of the day: BVLOS – Beyond Visual Line of Sight

BVLOS flights take place beyond the pilot’s visual range. Instead of keeping the drone in sight, operators control it through a GCS display or FPV goggles, enabling missions that go further and cover more ground.

Current limitations for BVLOS flights:

🔺Max altitude: 100 m

🔺Take-off and landing must be done in VLOS (Visual Line of Sight)

🔺Must be in a sparsely populated and controlled area

🔺Minimum visibility: 5 km

🔺Without observers: max 1 km horizontal distance

🔺With observers: up to 2 km from the pilot, and 1 km from each observer (always in communication)
